Advancing Medicine on the North Shore

More than 1,000 patients and visitors travel through Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, each day. The Clinic has seen exponential growth since its Peabody facility opened in 1994, with outpatient visits increasing more than 300 percent, and ambulatory surgery procedures growing more than 600 percent. Lahey Clinic still boasts the only emergency room and hospital in Peabody.

Today, the demand for health care services on the North Shore continues to increase, with an ever-growing population, an aging baby boomer generation, and advances in medicine. More people want Lahey Clinic's model of medicine, where coordinated teams of physicians work together to deliver high-quality, responsive care. Lahey Clinic continues to anticipate these needs by planning a facility and clinical services expansion in Peabody.

People have been counting on Lahey Clinic for its exceptional health care for more than 80 years. The Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, facility and clinical services expansion is a $50 million investment to ensure this legacy continues.

Expanding Medical Services

With the completion of its 65,000 square foot facility and clinical services expansion, Lahey Clinic will offer even more services in a larger, patient and family friendly environment. Renovations within the existing 162,000 square foot medical center will offer improved patient flow and new technologies.

The Clinic will add a new, three-story wing, containing a variety of clinical services. Related areas will be integrated, allowing for more efficient and cohesive care.

The First Floor will include:

• An expanded multidisciplinary Sophia Gordon Cancer Center, comprising of Hematology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and the Infusion Center.

The Second Floor will include:

• Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurology, including a state-of-the-art Neurophysiology lab and Sleep Disorders Center.

The Third Floor will include:

• General Internal Medicine, Spine Center and Pain Center.

The Emergency Department at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, will also expand with the addition of a fast-track unit for urgent care services. In addition, space for procedural and diagnostic testing will be added, including a dedicated surgery and procedure center and expansion of Radiology services. All of these efforts will ensure patients continue receiving top-notch diagnostic care and treatment close to home.

Adhering to Lahey's multidisciplinary group practice model, a number of interdisciplinary clinics and centers will also be available to patients with the expansion.

• Sleep Disorders Center
• Spine Center
• Fast Track Emergency Department Unit

Project Timetable

Construction for the expansion began in October of 2007. Completion of the new addition is expected in spring 2009, with renovations commencing in late 2009.
