Timothy O’Connor is executive vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer of Lahey Clinic, a
nonprofit, multispecialty health care organization based in Burlington, Mass. Prior to being named chief
financial officer in July 1995, O’Connor was director of finance at Lahey Clinic. When he joined Lahey
in 1993, he had 15 years of experience in healthcare financial management, having worked at
North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Mass., and Lynn Hospital and Union Hospital, both in Lynn, Mass.
In his role, O’Connor is responsible for providing insight to the continued development, implementation
and success of the organization’s strategic imperatives; administering the organization’s finance
functions; and providing financial advice and support to the operations of the organization’s business units.
His administrative responsibilities include general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, treasury
management, financial planning, contracting, reimbursement, managed care finance, revenue finance,
budget, financial systems, decision support, patient financial services, and internal audit.
O’Connor is treasurer of Lahey Clinic’s Board of Trustees, secretary of the Finance Committee,
secretary of the Audit and Compliance Committee, and a member of the Executive Council, Strategy
Council, Information Technology Steering Committee, and the Senior Executive Management Team.
A native of Massachusetts, O’Connor is a graduate of Salem State College and holds a bachelor of
science degree in business administration, with a concentration in accounting. He also holds a teacher
certification in business education.
Currently, O’Connor serves on the Board of the Provider Services Network, the Board of Managers of
the New England Healthcare EDI Network (NEHEN), the Committee on Finance of the Massachusetts
Hospital Association (MHA) and the Chief Financial Officers Council of VHA-New England. He is a
member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the Healthcare Information
and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the American Medical Group Association (AMGA).
