NP/PA Cardiothoracic Surgery

Responsibilities
Under the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon and within established departmental practice guidelines, the physician assistant is responsible for performing a variety of duties. These duties include, but are not limited to: preoperative patient evaluation and the performance of history and physical examinations, first assisting for cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, endoscopic saphenectomy, chest tube and line placement, providing postoperative patient care in the intensive care unit, floor and outpatient clinic settings and patient education.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at least 2 year?s experience in cardiothoracic surgery and be skilled in the care and management of pre, intra and postoperative cardiothoracic surgical patients. Prior first assistant experience, including strong endoscopic vein harvesting skills, is required.

Applicants must be able to interact positively with medical/nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team as well as with patients and their families. Candidates must possess sufficient emotional intelligence to work collaboratively in a fast paced, high-acuity environment where quality and caring come first. The ability to work on a busy 24/7 365 service , that includes periodic night and weekend in-house call responsibilities is also needed.
