• Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Cancer Center

    Lahey Clinic's Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Tumor Clinic provides teams of specialists from multiple departments to come together to diagnose and treat tumors both benign and cancerous involving the upper aerodigestive tract. The leaders of this team for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers come from the Departments of Otolaryngology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology. Your care is coordinated to include several related disciplines focused on rehabilitation and research including speech and swallow therapists, physical therapists and clinical research scientists.

    As a testament to Lahey Clinic's focus on the team approach for treating disease, the Clinic is proud to be included in the 11th annual Verispan 2008 integrated health care networks (IHNs) 100, an assessment of the 100 most highly integrated healthcare networks in the United States. Verispan's report, regarded as the nation's premier rating system, evaluates IHNs on their performance and degree of integration. Lahey was also ranked among the top ten IHN's in the Northeast.

    Lahey Clinic has been named a Blue Distinction Center for Complex and Rare Cancers (SM) by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Blue Distinction Center for Complex and Rare Cancers (SM) are facilities within participating Blue Cross and Blue Shield network service areas that offer comprehensive inpatient cancer care programs for adults, delivered by multidisciplinary teams with subspecialty training and distinguished clinical expertise.

    Lahey Clinic is proud to be involved in many innovative minimally invasive techniques in surgery and non-surgical cancer treatments including coblation and cryotherapy. Our radiation therapies are at the forefront of non-surgical treatments for head and neck cancers and include the use of such innovative techniques as Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), gamma knife, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Lahey Clinic's Department of Otolaryngology is performing advanced oral and laryngeal procedures using robotic technology. The department is also performing minimal incision endoscopic assisted thyroidectomies.
