Hospital Practice

  • Staffing in the central pharmacy or OR Satellite Pharmacy

Practice Management

  • Block rotation and longitudinal: Medication policy development, attendance at administrative and clinical meetings, small project assignments, CQI activities (e.g. medication safety, pre-printed orders)
  • Committee Membership/Attendance: P&T Committee, Stroke Committee, Med Triage Committee

Research/Project Management

The resident will conduct one major research project (IRB approved) for presentation at the Eastern States Residency Conference. Suggestions for potential projects provided. A preceptor advisor will work directly with the resident. A physician or nurse collaborator will also be involved.

Drug Information

In addition to conducting patient-specific drug information requests, the resident will have the following responsibilities related to drug information skill development: 

  • Prepare monograph for formulary addition request
  • Prepare a drug class review 
  • Write several articles for the Lahey Clinic Pharmacy newsletter distributed hospital-wide

Presentations/Teaching Opportunities 

  • Pharmacy Department (case presentations, CE approved conferences, Journal Club) 
  • Prescriber and Nursing in-services
  • PharmD student co-preceptorship on selected rotations 
  • Poster presentation at University Hospital Consortium (UHC) Resident Poster Session at ASHP midyear clinical meeting 
  • Resident Teaching Seminar (in Boston), monthly, certificate awarded 
  • Therapeutics Seminar facilitation or didactic lecturing – optional at discretion of program director

Professional Conference Attendance

Certifications 

  • Basic Life Support (required); Advanced Life Support (optional)
  • Vaccine administration
