Lahey Clinic offers a highly competitive and innovative benefits package. Our benefits program plays a vital role in demonstrating the organization's commitment to its colleagues.

Benefits categories:

Please note that only partial benefit information is contained on this site. In no case should a decision regarding benefits be made without reviewing complete information. Benefits are subject to conditions and limitations. Detailed plan information is provided during the interview process.

Physicians may be eligible for certain additional benefits, which should be reviewed during the interview process.

Flexible Benefits

Colleagues who are regularly scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week are eligible to participate in the LaheyFlex Program, effective the first day of their benefits-eligible employment. The program offers you and your family the opportunity to select those benefits and coverage levels that best suit your needs.

Medical Insurance

You have a choice of five medical plans: Tufts Health Plan HMO, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC) HMO, HMO Blue New England, Blue Choice New England Point of Service (POS), and Harvard Pilgrim Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). The deduction for your share of the cost of medical insurance is taken on a before-tax basis. Lahey Clinic contributes substantially to the medical insurance for colleagues.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is available through Delta Dental Plan of Massachusetts. Lahey offers you a choice between two plans: Dental High and Dental Low. The deduction for your share of the cost for dental insurance is taken on a before-tax basis.

Pre-Tax Reimbursement Accounts (health and dependent care)

Two reimbursement account programs are available, offering you the opportunity to pay for certain dependent care and certain medical/dental expenses on a before-tax basis. This means you will pay less tax and increase your take-home pay at the same time. These accounts are voluntary and should be carefully considered because unused contributions cannot be returned.

Basic Life Insurance

You have a choice of three basic life insurance options. Lahey provides you with a contribution to purchase up to two times your annual salary, to a maximum of $100,000 of Basic Life Insurance. However, based on your needs, you may choose to buy less coverage and use Lahey's contribution to help defray the cost of other benefits.

Supplemental Term Life Insurance

For added protection, you may purchase supplemental life insurance equal to one to five times your annual salary. The cost is based on age and salary.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance (AD& D)

AD&D insurance pays a benefit in addition to your life insurance benefit in the event of death or a dismembering injury due to an accident. You may also choose to purchase coverage for your family. This deduction is taken on a before-tax basis.

Dependent Life Insurance

Dependent life insurance provides a benefit in the case of the death of your spouse or dependent child(ren).

Short-Term Disability Insurance (STD)

Short-term disability insurance provides protection against loss of income in the event that you are unable to work due to illness or injury, for up to 13 weeks. One-half of the cost of this insurance is provided by Lahey.

Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)

Long-term disability insurance provides a benefit if you become ill or disabled and are unable to work for an extended period of time. You can select coverage from one of three levels of coverage: 50 percent, 40 percent or 25 percent of your monthly salary. You can select no coverage. All options have a maximum monthly benefit of $5,000 and a 90-day elimination period. This deduction is taken on an after-tax basis. Therefore, if you receive a benefit under the plan, it is tax-free.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance covers the cost of nursing home or other long-term care services not typically covered by medical or disability plans. You have the option to purchase this coverage for yourself, your spouse, and/or your parents and parents-in-law.

Retirement Benefits

Pension Plan

Lahey Clinic provides retirement income through a defined benefit pension plan. The pension plan is funded entirely by Lahey Clinic and does not require you to contribute to the plan. If you are at least 21 years of age and you have worked 12 consecutive months, you are eligible for pension plan participation on April 1 or October 1 following one year of service. You are vested in the plan after five years of service.

Lahey Clinic 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan

As an employee of a nonprofit organization, you are eligible to participate in the Lahey Clinic 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan by allocating a percentage of your pay to the 403(b) Plan. Fidelity Investments is the record keeper and administers the enrollment process. The 403(b) Plan allows you to defer taxes on contributions and earnings, making the plan a particularly effective way to save for retirement.

Time-Off Benefits

Earned Time

Earned Time (ET) is an approach used by many progressive organizations to structure paid time off. It combines traditional time-off programs into one paid time-off bank and allows you flexibility in managing your time off. You are eligible for Earned Time if you are regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Earned Time is accrued weekly, based on your scheduled hours, years of service and position level. New colleagues begin accruing ET the first Sunday following 30 calendar days of employment. You may use time from your bank when you are away from work for vacations, holidays, illnesses or personal reasons.

Personal Days

All regularly scheduled full-time and eligible part-time colleagues receive two personal days each January 1. Personal days may be sold under LaheyFlex to help you defray the cost of benefits. If you choose instead to use the day(s) as paid time off, the day(s) must be used by December 31 of that year or be forfeited.
