Project Overview
The number of patients seeking medical care at Lahey has grown considerably in the past 10 years. The extensive Southeast Expansion project currently under way at the hospital's main campus in Burlington, Mass., is designed to address increasing patient demand, introduce key advances in medical technology, and provide more convenient patient and visitor parking.
Highlights
The Southeast Expansion construction project encompasses approximately 150,000 square feet of additions and renovations, including seven levels of new construction, transformation of 45,000 square feet of existing space, and the creation of a new four-level, 1,165 vehicle parking garage adjacent to the hospital's main entrance. Noteworthy project highlights include incorporating the following features into Lahey's main campus:
- State-of-the-art inpatient facilities, including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 24 patient beds and two inpatient medical/surgical units with 18 beds each (36 beds total)
- Expanded surgical services, including five technologically advanced operating rooms, an expanded and renovated Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and enhancements to related surgical support services
- A four-level, 1,165 vehicle parking garage located adjacent to the hospital's main entrance and connected by covered walkways, which will improve patient and visitor access
- New roadway configurations to facilitate better traffic flow
- A new east entrance and lobby designed to make the hospital more easily accessible
- Shell space for future expansion
