Welcome to the Cattell Memorial Library Web Page
The Cattell Memorial Library was named in honor of Richard B. Cattell, M.D. (1900-1964), distinguished surgeon of international acclaim and successor to Dr. Frank H. Lahey as director of the Lahey Clinic from 1953 to 1962.
The library is a clinical medical resource whose primary function is to support the research and educational needs of all Lahey Clinic employees. We are located on the fourth floor just outside the main lobby.
Patients, community members, and non-affiliated students and researchers are welcome to use the facility during staffed hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., but are not permitted borrowing privileges. There are no evening or weekend hours available.
Our collection consists of current subscriptions to approximately 180 journal titles; over 12,000 bound journal volumes; several journal titles on microfilm; and over 1500 textbooks. There is also a separate Management collection as well as a Medical Ethics collection. Journals, along with textbooks on the RESERVE shelf, do not circulate ensuring availability for patient care needs. A photocopier is available in the library free of charge for Lahey employees, all others must pay a per page photocopy fee.
The library also has computer workstations available for use by all Lahey Clinic staff and other library users. One workstation is a dedicated CD-ROM based MEDLINE / CINAHL database and the others are Internet accessible workstations that also provide access to the Microsoft Office suite of software. Priority at these workstations is given to Lahey Clinic employees. Any non-Lahey employee using either workstation can be asked at any time, by any employee to end their session.
Contact the library for additional information at 781-744-8253.
