Lahey offers a Risk Assessment Clinic for women who are at an increased risk for developing breast or ovarian cancer based on their family history. Patients receive a comprehensive evaluation by a genetic counselor and by our risk assessment team which includes our board-certified breast surgeons, nurse practitioners and social workers. Genetic testing is available for patients determined to be at high risk for a mutation that could predispose them to the development of breast or ovarian cancer.
In addition to individualized risk assessments, genetic counseling provides information about:
- Genetic mutations
- Patterns of transmission
- The benefits and limitations of genetic testing
- Potential risks to other members of the family
