The Endoscopy Unit provides comprehensive gastrointestinal endoscopy services - the use of flexible fiberoptics for direct visual, as well as digitally enhanced, examination of internal organs - on an outpatient basis.
In addition to the usual diagnostic upper endoscopy examination (flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy) specialized procedures performed in the Endoscopy Unit include:
- polypectomy
- dilation of esophageal strictures
- pneumatic bag dilation for achalasia
- esophageal prosthetic tube placement
- injection sclerotherapy for esophageal varices
- electrocoagulation for gastrointestinal bleeding
- percutaneous endoscopic gastrotomy (PEG) feeding tube
- endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
- diagnostic retrograde pancreatic cholangiography (ERCP)
- endoscopic sphincterotomy
- stone extraction
- biliary stent placement
- biliary stricture dilation
