Men’s Educational Group Appointment (MEGA)

Welcome to Lahey Clinic's men's educational group appointment (MEGA) Web site

The MEGA is now being offered at Lahey Clinic to address the ongoing silent health crisis facing men today. Medical director Bruce Campbell, MD, and Dan Gosselin, PA, facilitate the program.

Throughout life, men have a higher age-adjusted death rate from the leading causes of death than women. Although genetics may play a role, men tend to neglect their health and to engage in more unhealthy behaviors than women.

What is the MEGA?

The MEGA is a medical appointment that involves a group component. The MEGA lasts approximately 90 minutes to two hours and includes a private examination, a review of the laboratory results of all patients participating in the MEGA and an educational session where staff address both your and other group members' medical concerns.

Meet Lahey's MEGA teamWhen you arrive for the MEGA, you will meet with six to nine other patients in a comfortable room, where we will review your current laboratory data and answer your and other patients' questions. Various health care personnel who can provide useful information to the group are present during the meeting.

Please note: Although the MEGA is a great option for some patients, it is not for everyone. A traditional exam may be better for patients who have difficulty hearing or those with complicated medical conditions.

Advantages of the MEGADan Gosselin, PA, educates MEGA patients

  • Privacy of an individual physical combined with a group discussion of men's health issues
  • More time spent with health care providers
  • Opportunity to interact with other patients who have similar health concerns
  • More of your questions answered due to the amount of time available and the presence of other patients who have questions you may not have thought to ask
  • Greater availability of appointments

Patient Testimonials

MEGA medical director Bruce Campbell, MD, enjoys facilitating the program because it provides a stimulating group discussion of men's health and wellness. In his experience, patients have asked excellent questions, and the majority of them return to the MEGA the following year for their physical exam.

Below is a sampling of what some of the MEGA patients have to say:

"Most visits with a physician happen so quickly that unless you write things down, you're back in your car before you realize what you wanted to ask. This format let me hear what's on the minds of other men. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again." - Vincent, patient

"The ability to share information back and forth between the practitioners and the patients is valuable." - Jonathan, patient
