Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors (off label)

A tablet approved for men. It has been effective in a large percentage of patients, but there are definite side effects. Studies have shown mixed results. Hormone deficiency may hamper results with this drug.
  • Female testosterone patch

  • Hormone replacement therapy (tablet, patch, gel)
    Estrogen (no uterus)
Estrogen plus human progesterone (if uterus is present)
  • Androgen replacement therapy
    DHEA (precursor to testosterone)
Female testosterone patch–release date 2005/6 by Procter & Gamble
Off label-small doses of male testosterone gel
  • Nonspecific therapies: PDE5 inhibitors (off label), Viagra, Cialis
Studies on Sildenafil (Viagra) in women were mixed, possibly due to the fact that these drugs do not work well if there is a testosterone deficiency.
  • Zestra
An oily herbal preparation applied to genitals to increase blood flow.

New treatment options are continually being evaluated and implemented. If there is a treatment you have heard of but do not see listed here, please ask your doctor.
