Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Lahey Clinic provides inpatient and outpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery services, including the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the jaw and facial region.


Procedures performed through the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service include


  • Dentoalveolar surgery
    • Extraction of teeth, including wisdom teeth
    • Removal of cysts and lesions of the mouth and jaws
    • Management of oral infections
  • Management of maxillofacial pathology
  • Maxillofacial trauma
  • Orthognathic surgery
    • Correct skeletal abnormalities of the jaw
  • Outpatient intravenous conscious sedation
  • Placement of dental implants
  • Preprosthetic surgery
  • Reconstructive surgery including bone grafting
  • Surgery and treatment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)

Along with these procedures, the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service uses a multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with other Lahey services. These services include treatment for


  • Bone marrow transplant
  • Cardiac surgery, specifically heart valve replacement
  • Coumadin Clinic
  • Cleft palate
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Kidney transplant
  • Leukemia
  • Liver transplant
  • Lymphoma
  • Pancreas transplant
  • Sleep apnea
