We strongly believe in the concept of preventing illness and injury to your
child. Please be sure to keep your child's immunizations up to date by making
the appropriate well care visits.
It is very important to maintain a safe environment for your child at all
times. Always follow recommended safety rules. Ask your provider for safety
guidelines. Here are a few important ones:
- Have working smoke detectors. Test them regularly and
practice fire drills. Consider carbon monoxide detectors for your home, also.
- Have your infants sleep on their backs unless your
physician recommends otherwise.
- Use infant car seats as instructed (or booster seats
when appropriate). Keep children in the back seat, especially if there is a
passenger air bag in use. Wear your seat belts, too.
- Child-proof your home.
- Insist on helmet use and street safety.
- Never leave a child unattended in tub.
- Check your water heater temperature. It should be set
not higher than 130.
- Communication with your child at any age is important, especially during
the time of emerging independence-the adolescent years. Talk early and often
about drugs and sex with your children, and set aside time each week to engage
each child individually.
Contact your pediatrician or provider for questions on development or
behavior if you fell you need further resources or guidelines. Our goal is to
help you make raising your family a healthy and enjoyable
experience.
