Prostate and Endocavitary Exams

High-resolution scans of a variety of organs such as the prostate, urethra, rectum and cervix are performed with a small surface coil or receiver that is fitted inside a balloon. This coil is placed very close to the organ of interest.

The examination of the prostate is done with a surface coil that is inserted into the rectum for examination of the prostate. This examination permits better staging and evaluation of the prostate gland.

Pelvic imaging can also be done to image for rectal or urinary incontinence. This is done with dynamic scans of the pelvis. MR is also very sensitive for identifying perirectal fissures often seen in inflammatory bowel disease. Additionally, MR can be used to stage rectal cancer.
