Lahey Clinic Accepts $50,000 pledge by Salter HealthCare

BURLINGTON, MA—Lahey Clinic Medical Center announced today that Richard and Robert Salter, owners of Salter HealthCare in Winchester and Woburn, Mass., pledged $50,000 to support the Nursing Student Stipend Program at Lahey Clinic, the Women's Health Forum's primary philanthropic initiative. The Salter Nursing Challenge aims to increase donor participation from grateful patients and their friends and families.

“The Challenge from Salter HealthCare is incredibly appreciated,” says David M. Barrett, MD, president and chief executive officer of Lahey Clinic. “We are so pleased that the Salter family continues to invest in Lahey Clinic and this important educational program.”

The Women's Health Forum is a group of friends of the Clinic whose mission is to support Lahey through educational programs, philanthropy, and outreach. In the past several years, WHF has raised over $450,000 to support important fund-raising priorities at Lahey, most notably its Nursing Student Stipend Program.
Two to three times a year the WHF presents a lecture on a topic relevant to women's health. The spring 2010 lecture will focus on staying healthy through sensible diet and exercise habits. Previous lectures have included “Women and Heart Disease” and “A Good Night's Sleep.”

“We are glad to help the Clinic provide the families of our community with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and the health of their loved ones,” says Rich Salter, Principal of Salter HealthCare Services.

Salter HealthCare Services is a family-owned and operated company, based in Winchester, Mass., that provides skilled nursing services in its three facilities to patients requiring rehabilitation, subacute, respite, and hospice care. Winning Farm in Winchester, Salter HealthCare's newest facility, is currently under construction. It will serve as an independent living facility.
