Burlington, Mass. (May 14, 2012)— Lahey Clinic’s Annual Cancer Walk & 5K Run will take place rain or shine on Saturday morning, June 2. The events, held simultaneously on the Burlington and Peabody campuses, are open to all to raise funds to enhance Lahey’s cancer services in both locations. Thank you for leaving pets at home.
Inspired by the realization that there are a million reasons to walk because cancer impacts us all, the event celebrates its seventh year in Burlington and third in Peabody. With the help of community support and participation, 2012 will be the year when the Walk reaches an impressive milestone—a cumulative total of $1,000,000 raised in support of cancer care at Lahey Clinic. Donations to this year’s walk will go to the nurse navigator programs and other supportive services. This year’s Platinum Plus sponsor is Salter HealthCare, which operates rehabilitation and nursing centers in Woburn and Winchester, Mass. The event media sponsors are Magic 106.7 and 105.7 WROR.
The family-friendly event will feature music, dancing, amusements, educational booths, and inspiring stories from cancer survivors. Walkers can form teams by mobilizing family and friends or walk individually. A complimentary continental breakfast at registration and after-walk brunch will be available.
Registration is available online at http://Walk.Lahey.org. For more information, contact the Lahey Philanthropy Office at 781-744-3333. Lahey’s Sophia Gordon Cancer Center offers a full range of comprehensive medical and surgical specialists. Board-certified physicians in medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology collaborate to bring personalized, compassionate care to patients.
Among its many distinctions, Lahey has been granted the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Lahey is one of 13 programs, and the only one in New England, to receive this award for the past three consecutive surveys, spanning the past nine years
