Sixth Annual Event Now Features a First-Time5K Run in Burlington

Burlington, Mass. – April 13, 2011 – Lahey Clinic Medical Center will hold its sixth annual Cancer Walk on Saturday morning, June 4, at two of its locations, Burlington and Peabody, to raise funds to support patient care coordination and access to services.

This year, a 5K run has been added to the Burlington campus location at 41 Mall Road. Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, will hold its walk at the Northshore Mall in Peabody.

The family-friendly events will feature music, dancing, arts and crafts, educational booths, and stories from cancer survivors. Walkers can form teams by mobilizing family and friends or walk individually. A complimentary continental breakfast at registration and an after-walk/run brunch will be available.

“Whether you run or walk with a team of family, friends or co-workers, you are supporting someone who has faced or is facing cancer,” said Keith E. Stuart, MD, chair of hematology/oncology at Lahey Clinic. “Your generosity helps us continue strengthening our cancer programs, treatments and research offered at Lahey.”

Special cash prizes will be awarded to individuals and teams raising the most funds. A grand prize, awarded at each site, is a trip for two to Orlando, Fla., including round-trip airfare and three nights lodging at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes.

Lahey cancer services are provided from the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center in Burlington and Peabody, which offers a complete range of diagnostic, medical and surgical specialties to treat cancer patients.
