Lahey Clinic’s Annual Cancer Walk & 5K Run will take place rain or shine on Saturday morning, June 2. The events, held simultaneously on the Burlington and Peabody campuses, are open to all to raise funds to enhance Lahey’s cancer services in both locations.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) has granted its Outstanding Achievement Award to Lahey Clinic as a result of surveys performed during 2011. Lahey Clinic is one of a select group of 106 currently accredited and newly accredited cancer programs across the United States to receive this award.

Lahey Clinic has been named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Thomson Reuters, and the only such hospital recognized in the Boston-area. The Thomson Reuters study examined the performance of more than 1,000 hospitals by analyzing outcomes for patients with heart failure and heart attacks and for those who received coronary bypass surgery and percutaneous coronary interventions such as angioplasties.

Seventeen Lahey physicians have been chosen to present their original research at the world’s most preeminent urological meeting. Of the more than 1,500 submissions from the field of urology, a podium presentation by Lahey Clinic’s Jessica Delong, MD, is one of only seven research projects selected for special presentation. Dr. Delong, a urology resident at Lahey, will unveil findings related to a urine-based assay that holds promise for detecting and characterizing bladder cancer in a non-invasive manner.

Lahey Clinic will hold its sixth annual Cancer Walk on Saturday morning, June 4, at two of its locations, Burlington and Peabody, to raise funds to support patient care coordination and access to services. This year a 5K run has been added to the Burlington campus location at 41 Mall Road. Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, will hold its walk at the Northshore Mall in Peabody.
