When Frank Lahey, MD, founded a group practice in 1923, his vision was unique: Every component of a patient's health care would be coordinated under one roof. Today, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center still offers a distinctive patient experience.
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is a physician-led, nonprofit group practice. Nearly 475 physicians and more than 4,000 nurses, therapists and other support staff work together to provide compassionate care and superior patient outcomes. Hospital & Medical Center's multidisciplinary approach unites the hospital in order to provide the most complete patient care possible.
Patients travel long distances to benefit from techniques pioneered by Lahey surgeons. The Cerebrovascular Disease Center is among the most advanced in the region for treatment of strokes and brain aneurysms. The Liver Transplantation Team was the first in New England to perform adult living-donor transplant procedures. In addition, surgeons are using minimally invasive laparoscopic methods, reducing the surgical recovery time for conditions such as kidney disease and bladder cancer. For the past six years, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center was cited in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" issue for excellence in treating urological diseases.
The Heart & Vascular Center at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is one of the largest in the region. Through partnerships with local hospitals, Lahey physicians are providing New England communities with expertise in advanced cardiology services such as angioplasty and electrophysiology, and helping to train other physicians.
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is a teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. In addition, many of our physicians hold teaching assignments at Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. The Clinic maintains residency and fellowship programs for more than 130 new physicians in multiple subspecialties.
As a research center, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center offers patients access to clinical trials of new therapies for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and cataracts. Research programs at Lahey Clinic encompass more than 200 clinical trial protocols in numerous national and international studies.
With 39 acclaimed specialties all working together under one roof, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is unique among medical centers and teaching hospitals.
