Collection of Explicit Information
When you visit the Site, and make a specific request (such as a request for information or a request for an appointment) certain information is required to complete that request. If the request is completed through E-mail, for example, you will be asked to provide a valid E-mail address. If a request is made for service that can only be completed through the US mail, you will be asked to provide a mailing address. The information that is collected is used only to complete the request and is not saved or used for any other purpose without your consent.
Collection of Implicit Information
Implicit information is information that is collected whenever a browser is used to access a web page. This information is logged by a server and can be aggregated into statistics for analysis. Implicit information is not personal to the user, and cannot be used to identify the user. Lahey uses aggregate implicit data to determine traffic patterns, hits, visits, and other measurable statistics.
Cookies are small text files that are placed on a computer by a web browser. By themselves, they cannot be used to determine identity. Rather, they are used to identify the computer on which they are placed. Cookies allow website publishers to customize content for that computer. Lahey Clinic will occasionally utilize cookie technology for specific pages and applications. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you may be able to set your browser to refuse them or to alert you when they are being sent.
Encryption of Sensitive Information
In accordance with Lahey policy and applicable law, Lahey Clinic takes all reasonable precautions to protect the confidentiality of E-visitors to the Site. When private information is required, such as a phone number for an appointment call back, that information is encrypted using current software, consistent with industry-wide standards.
For information regarding the protection of your private health information, please refer to Lahey's Notice of Patients' Rights.
