Pathways to Expertise


Pathways to Expertise is a unique program created at Lahey for registered nurses to promote the development of clinical expertise in an area of nursing specialization. The Pathway to Expertise Program provides professional support and development so that career advancement can occur throughout one's professional nursing career at Lahey Clinic.

Skill Concentration Options

Intensive care nurses providing a coordinated response to a change in a patient's condition The Department of Nursing invites RNs who are medical-surgical generalists to advance their nursing skills in the following areas:

  • Telemetry
  • Medical intensive care
  • Surgical intensive care
  • Coronary intensive care
  • Intermediate care
  • Perioperative nursing
  • Post-anesthesia nursing
  • Ambulatory surgical nursing
  • Cardiothoracic and vascular surgical nursing
  • Emergency nursing
  • Oncology nursing
  • Medical-surgical nursing
  • Infusion therapy

About the Program

The Pathways to Expertise program includes a 12- to 16-week competency-based orientation that uses a blended learning approach including individual, group and electronic learning modalities. Advanced learning concepts based upon the American Nurses Association Standards of Professional Nursing Practice and National Nursing Speciality Organization Standards are taught in both classroom and clinical settings.
