The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (also known as HCAHPS) is a tool that helps measure experience among patients admitted to the hospital. HCAHPS represents a partnership of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The survey provides a standardized set of questions, enabling those agencies—and consumers—to make comparisons between hospitals.
