Suffering from illness, disease, accidents, or age can be among
life's most difficult burdens. Such suffering can cause anxious
questions: Why am I sick? Why did this happen to me? Can I handle it?
Where is God in all this? Medical science can help of course - and we
should seek help from doctors and medical resources - but in sickness
we often look for spiritual support as well.
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center understands that caring for the whole person must
include addressing spiritual and religious needs as well as medical
issues. Therefore, the hospital offers the services of the Chaplaincy
Department. Trained in pastoral care and counseling, family systems,
ethics, and religious and spiritual traditions, our chaplains are
available to provide emotional and spiritual support to our patients,
families, and staff.
