Healthcare Administration Fellowship
Healthcare Administration Fellowship at Lahey Clinic
The Lahey Clinic Administrative Fellowship is a one-year, rotational and project-based program designed to develop the next generation of healthcare leaders. Fellows work directly with senior executives, lead high-impact operational and strategic projects, and gain exposure to the breadth of an academic medical center within the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) system.
Since its launch in 2018, the fellowship has invested in early careerists by pairing them with the executives shaping care delivery across one of New England's premier health systems. Fellows conclude the program with measurable accomplishments, a broad operational knowledge base, and a network of executive mentors. Fellows are positioned for leadership roles in academic medicine, integrated health systems, and other healthcare leadership roles.
The program is built around a leadership and mentorship structure that immerses fellows in the day-to-day work of executive decision-making:
- Executive Sponsor: Dr. Susan Moffatt-Bruce, President of Lahey Clinic
- Executive Preceptor: Executive Director
- Program Directors: Administrative Directors of Operations
The fellow rotates across operational, clinical, and strategic areas of Lahey. Rotations are 8 - 12 weeks long and include but are not limited to:
- Ambulatory Practices
- Perioperative Services
- Patient Progression
- Revenue Cycle
- Quality and Patient Safety

"The LHMC Administrative Fellowship offers a transformative experience, combining rotational and project-based learning to foster the fellow's growth while providing insight into the complexities and innovations of health care. During the fellowship, I had the opportunity to lead process improvement initiatives, regulatory projects and innovation implementation — experiences that honed my leadership and change management skills, while aligning with the organization’s strategic objectives. Senior leadership’s investment in my development enabled me to become integrated with the executive team and opened doors for valuable networking and career advancement. This fellowship has far exceeded my expectations, providing me with a strong foundation to excel as an administrative leader in health care."

Fellowship Year: 2023-2024
"My administrative fellowship at Lahey was an invaluable experience that deepened my understanding of health care operations and strategic management. I led process improvement initiatives in the Department of Surgery and Medicine, managed the acquisition of a cardiology practice and streamlined contract tracking for provider services. Additionally, I optimized preadmission testing workflows through stakeholder engagement and process mapping. The guidance and support from leadership further enriched my experience, equipping me to drive strategic initiatives, manage complex projects and collaborate across departments. This experience has strengthened my confidence and ambition as a future leader, committed to navigating challenges with foresight and making a lasting impact."

"LHMC’s Administrative Fellowship provides a truly unique experience catered to the fellow’s accelerated growth and development through exposure to the challenges and innovations in health care and consistent mentorship. Additionally, the fellowship gave me the opportunity to experience change management, effective communication techniques, and learn the value contributions made by all individuals and disciplines in support of the institution's mission. The highlight for me was the personal investment the senior leaders had in my development as a leader. I can say without hesitation that this program has exceeded my expectations and that I'm grateful for such an opportunity!"

Fellowship Year: 2020-2021
"It was a gratifying experience serving as LHMC’s fellow during such unprecedented times. I entered my administrative fellowship anticipating a rotational and project-based experience surrounding hospital administration. Due to the pandemic, leadership mobilized an urgent effort to create a centralized Covid-19 testing center. I was given the unique opportunity to step in and provide managerial oversight to support this initiative. This was a pivotal opportunity in my fellowship and served as an 'all-in-one project.' I managed the overall operations including staffing, scheduling, overseeing supply chain and inventory mapping on a daily basis. As volumes fluctuated, our team focused on managing process improvement and quality control in order to simplify daily operations."
Vasiliki Zotou
Fellowship Year: 2019-2020
"Being the inaugural administrative fellow put me in a unique position to learn through a rigorous rotation-based structure, while still having the flexibility to explore and hone in on my interests through a variety of elective projects and initiatives. I also appreciated the numerous opportunities for networking and relationship building across many departments and disciplines. I am particularly grateful for the valuable time each of my fellowship sponsors and preceptors spent mentoring me and guiding me through the entire journey. They made me feel like I was a member of the executive team and that is something very few Fellows get to experience. I concluded my fellowship having accumulated a wealth of knowledge, and experiences, as well as a stronger professional network.”
Alongside rotations, fellows lead high-impact projects aligned with both organizational priorities and their own professional interests. Past projects include:

- Completed Failure Modes Effects Analysis for inpatient hospice service
- Led Operating Room Redesign project, collaborating with Lahey and BILH stakeholders
- University Consent Initiative
- Staffing ratio analyses within the Department of Surgery
