A risk factor is something that raises the chances of getting a health problem. A person can get uterine fibroids with or without the ones listed below. The chances of getting them are greater in people who have many.

This problem is more common in people who are 40 to 50 years of age. It is also more common in people who are Black. Other things that may raise the risk are:

  • Never having children
  • Starting menstrual periods at an early age
  • Periods that happen more often than normal
  • Painful periods
  • Having other family members with this problem
  • Obesity
