For specialized testing, neurologists and radiologists at Lahey Clinic work with specialists in neuropsychology, neurophysiology and other areas. We use the latest medical imaging techniques to diagnose and treat a range of neurological disorders. We also use specialized neurology tests to rule out various conditions or monitor the effectiveness of a current treatment.
Neurophysiology Labs
Lahey houses a comprehensive, state-of-the-art neurophysiology lab. Board-certified physicians who have subspecialty training supervise the labs. Our highly trained staff of neurophysiology technologists administer the tests.
In our lab, you may be tested for seizures, nerve/muscle diseases or brain circulation disorders. These tests guide your neurologist toward an accurate diagnosis and the best treatment plan for you.
How To Schedule Testing
To schedule a neurological exam in our neurophysiology lab, you need a referral from your neurologist or another physician. Talk to your doctor about your neurologic symptoms and whether neurologic testing could help with your diagnosis and care plan.

Electroencephalography (EEG)
EEG tests brain waves for epilepsy and other conditions. We offer EEG in outpatient and inpatient settings. As an impatient, you’ll be in our long-term video-EEG monitoring unit.
Electromyography & Nerve Conduction Studies (EMG)
EMG evaluates the diseases of nerves and muscles, such as peripheral neuropathy and radiculopathy (pinched nerves). We also offer quantitative sensory testing for peripheral neuropathy.
Evoked Potential Test
During the evoked potential test, we place electrodes on your head to record brain waves. This measures the amount of time it takes for nerves to respond to stimulation. We may test nerves in various parts of your body using this method.
Autonomic Testing
We perform autonomic testing for peripheral neuropathy and other symptoms, such as fainting.
Transcranial Doppler (TCD) & Carotid Ultrasound
TCD and carotid ultrasound uses ultrasound to evaluate the circulation within your brain. We perform this testing for those who have had a stroke.
The Sleep Disorders Center at Lahey offers overnight and all-day testing for sleep apnea, narcolepsy and other sleep disorders.
