Lahey Benefits

Colleagues who are regularly scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week are eligible to participate in the Lahey benefits program, effective the first day of their benefits-eligible employment. The program offers colleagues and their family the opportunity to select benefits and coverage levels that best suit their needs.

Medical Insurance

Colleagues have a choice of three medical plans, both administered by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care: Harvard Pilgrim-Lahey Select HMO, Harvard Pilgrim-Lahey Health Value HMO and Harvard Pilgrim PPO. The colleague deduction for the cost of medical insurance is taken on a before-tax basis. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center contributes substantially to the medical insurance for colleagues.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is available through Delta Dental Plan of Massachusetts. Lahey offers a choice between two plans: Dental High and Dental Low. The colleague deduction of the cost for dental insurance is taken on a before-tax basis.

Vision Insurance

Vision insurance is available through Davis Vision and offers a wide choice of vision providers. The colleague deduction of the cost for vision insurance is taken on a before-tax basis.

Flexible Spending Accounts (Health and Dependent Care)

Two flexible spending account programs are available, offering colleagues the opportunity to pay for certain dependent care and certain medical/dental expenses on a before-tax basis. This means colleagues pay less tax and increase their take-home pay at the same time.

Life and Disability Insurance

Lahey provides Basic Life Insurance up to one time the colleague’s annual salary (maximum benefit $500,000) at no cost to the colleague. For added protection, colleagues may purchase Supplemental Life Insurance equal to an additional one to five times annual salary. Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), Spousal Life and Child Life Insurance are also offered. Both Short Term and Long Term Disability Insurance, which protect against loss of income if a colleague becomes ill or disabled, are offered as well. Long Term Disability Insurance is offered at no cost to the colleague.

Retirement Benefits 

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center provides retirement savings through a defined contribution plan. The Lahey Hospital & Medical Center 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan allows colleagues to defer taxes on contributions and earnings as a way to save for retirement. Lahey also contributes to this plan on a matching and an annual basis.

Time Away Benefits

Earned Time

Colleagues are eligible for Earned Time if a colleague is regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Earned Time is accrued weekly, based on scheduled hours, years of service and position level. Earned Time may be used when away from work for vacations, holidays, illnesses or personal reasons.

Personal Days

All regularly scheduled full-time and eligible part-time colleagues receive two personal days each January 1. Personal days may be sold to help defray the cost of benefits.
