• Evaluating Male Sexual Dysfunction

At the Center for Sexual Function, affiliated with Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, the goal of our initial evaluation is to determine the type of sexual dysfunction you are experiencing and investigate the possible cause or causes.

Whether it is decreased sexual desire, problems with ejaculation or the most common issue, erectile dysfunction (ED), our experienced professional s are here to help you.

Lahey’s Center for Sexual Function utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in the diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunction in men. We consider all possible underlying causes, especially multiple medical risk factors that may be triggering or contributing to the condition.

    Your Appointment: What To Expect

At your first appointment, we will:

    • Ask for your detailed medical history, including current medications
    • Ask you to describe in detail the sexual problem you are experiencing
    • Perform a physical examination
    • Talk with you to explore any possible contributing factors that may not be part of your medical record

We also may want you to have blood tests to check your hormone and other metabolic levels.

    Sex Therapy

In addition to investigating medical issues, we also may consider your relationship with your partner. In fact, partners are encouraged to attend the consultation, if possible. In some cases, we might advise a consultation with a professional sex therapist. At times, there may be both medical and psychological issues that need to be addressed simultaneously.
