• Obesity is a complex condition that develops from a combination of social, behavioral, cultural, physiological, metabolic and genetic factors. So no single weight-loss approach will work for everyone.

At Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s Medical Weight Loss program, our team recognizes that by offering a range of less-aggressive to more-aggressive scientifically based diets, we can best meet each person’s varying needs.

The ultimate objective is a healthy lifestyle and more informed choices to help you achieve and maintain your weight management goals.

    Weight Loss Program Options

Here are some options available through Lahey’s comprehensive, physician-supervised weight loss program:

    Balanced Calorie Deficit Diet

While encouraging higher protein intake and controlled carbohydrate intake, we help design a diet that promotes weight and fat loss while keeping you full and satisfied.

    Partial Meal Replacement Plan

Meal replacements have been found to be effective in helping people lose weight and maintain weight loss when used for 1 or 2 meals and/or snacks. This plan typically involves consuming 2 to 3 shakes or bars per day, along with a balanced meal. The structure and portion control of the diet leads to steady predictable weight loss.

    Full Meal Replacement Plan

This involves a very low-calorie liquid diet option designed for rapid weight loss over a designated period of time. It is important to note that the proper re-introduction of food is a critical step so that rapid weight regain doesn’t occur.

    Protein Sparing Modified Fast

A very low-calorie diet option that includes primarily lean protein sources for rapid weight loss over a designated period of time. Similar to the full meal replacement plan, gradual re-introduction of food into the diet is necessary so that rapid weight regain doesn’t occur.

To augment the diet plans, if indicated and agreed upon with the obesity medicine physician, pharmacotherapy (medication) may be considered for some individuals.

The medical weight loss team is skilled in teaching behavioral modification techniques and strategies for long-term weight management. Additionally, our specially trained psychologist provides emotional and supportive counseling in an individual or group setting to those who are struggling with emotional eating, binge eating, disordered eating, weight regain after bariatric surgery – or who simply need additional support during their weight loss journey.
