Teamwork is a key focus of the Center for Professional Development & Simulation at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. Because hospitalized patients are cared for by teams, we believe training should encompass a team-based, multidisciplinary approach.
We are unique in that we integrate all disciplines together – medical, surgical, physician, nurse – as a critical part of our training. Recognizing the need to start teaching teamwork skills early in providers careers, we developed an innovative training program and are the only hospital in the greater Boston area where medical students and nursing students train together.
Our Center utlizes TeamSTEPPS® (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) which is an evidence-based system to teach teamwork and communication skills from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
