Research Opportunities (Pulmonary Fellowship)

Physicians from the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine are actively engaged in a number of cutting-edge research studies. Fellows are required to participate in a research project, and to present at a national meeting by the end of the fellowship.

Research projects can be conducted at any time during the training program, but a total of eight months (one the first year, two the second year, and three the third year) during the fellowship are available as "research time," during which a fellow can conduct research without having any daytime clinical responsibilities. Fellows who participate in research projects are expected to develop and write the research proposal for presentation to Lahey's Institutional Review Board and must carry out the clinical project with guidance from a supervising faculty member.
