Educational Conferences - Diagnostic Radiology Residency

Noon conferences occur on a daily basis and last until 1:30 pm. Generally, the first half of conference lasts until 12:45 pm, and is primarily didactic in nature. The second half of conference lasts until 1:30 pm, and is a mix of didactic and case-based reviews. Many of the case-based reviews are given by residents with staff supervision. Also included in the noon conference lecture series are dedicated MRI physics lectures, radiologic physics lectures given by one of our in-house physicists, and a visiting professor lectures.

Our visiting professor lecture series is new over the last couple of years, and includes invited local and national experts in radiology giving an hour didactic conference preceded or followed by a case-based review geared to our residents.

Multidisciplinary conferences occur on a daily basis, and generally occur in the mornings before start of daily rotations. This includes: Monday - Thoracic Oncology/Pulmonary, Tuesday – Vascular Surgery; Wednesday – Genitourinary (GU) and ENT (depending on the week); Thursday – Gastrointestinal (GI); Friday – ER, Neurointerventional (depending on the week). Residents on specific rotations may also attend multidisciplinary conferences in Breast Imaging, GI Oncology, Neurosurgery, and GU Oncology.

Journal clubs occur several times per year, and require active resident participation. Senior residents will critically present journal articles on a variety of topics, with ensuing discussion amongst other residents and staff.

Tumor Board (Oncology) conferences are weekly interdisciplinary conferences – amongst the surgeons, radiation oncologists, and oncologists. The radiology residents are responsible for presenting the radiology aspects of cases. Residents gain valuable insight into treatment and management of a variety of oncologic cases.

Our residents also present case at other multidisciplinary conferences, including team rounds with the general internal medicine residents and surgical intensive care units. This is a great opportunity to meet and discuss cases with other residents and clinicians.
