Fifth Annual Cancer Walk scheduled for June 5 at Lahey Clinic

BURLINGTON, MA—Lahey Clinic's Fifth Annual Cancer Walk, honoring patients and their loved ones, takes place Saturday, June 5, at two sites: Lahey's Burlington campus from 8 a.m.-noon and also at Northshore Mall in Peabody from 7:30-10:30 a.m. The events are open to all and raise funds to underwrite patient navigation services and support integrative medicine programs that help patients thrive. Lahey cancer services are now available in Burlington, Peabody and Derry, N.H., at the Parkland Medical Center.

The walks are fun-filled events that are great for the entire family. Form a team by asking family and friends to unite for this important cause. Enjoy an after-walk brunch, entertainment, and educational displays. Hear inspiring stories from cancer survivors

Previous walks have raised more than $500,000 to enhance Lahey Clinic's cancer patient services. Last year, funds underwrote the Brain Tumor Support Group, the renovation of the family waiting room on the Burlington campus, and the construction of the waiting room in the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center at Lahey Clinic North Shore, Peabody.

Online registration information is available at www.lahey.org/cancerwalk, or by calling the Philanthropy Office, 781-744-3333.

“Walker and donor contributions help expand patient access to research and underwrite our cancer support groups,” said Keith Stuart, MD, chair of hematology and oncology at Lahey. “We are grateful to our volunteer community for the generosity that allows us to augment clinical care with more diverse ways of healing that patients tell us helps them in their recoveries.”

The Sophia Gordon Cancer Center at Lahey Clinic uses a multidisciplinary approach as its foundation for delivering cancer services with a cancer site-specific focus. Lahey has cancer teams, each headed by a director-leader and comprised of at least one hematologist, oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgeon, as well as various allied health care providers. Each team focuses on one of the following cancer sites: breast, lung, hepatobiliary, colon and rectal, bladder, kidney, prostate, gynecology, head and neck, hematologic, and skin and brain. This approach to care ensures patients' needs are addressed immediately, efficiently and in a clinically appropriate manner

Among its many recent achievements, the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center was granted the Outstanding Achievement Award for excellence in providing cancer patient care by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. This distinction is achieved by only 19 percent of cancer programs surveyed by the group.
