Joshua Berkowitz, MD, named chair, Department of Internal Medicine, Peabody campus
Peabody, MA—Joshua L. Berkowitz, MD, has been named chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, effective immediately.
Dr. Berkowitz most recently served as Station Leader at the Burlington General Internal Medicine (GIM) group. In his new role, Dr. Berkowitz will work to expand and improve access to Lahey Clinic's GIM department in Peabody. The department will move into a new wing on the Peabody campus, and the wing will house new services to treat pain, sleep and spine disorders, as well as a fast-track emergency room.
“I am delighted to join the Lahey Clinic, North Shore practice, especially during this exciting time of expansion,” said Dr. Berkowitz. “I have always felt that practicing primary care is a privilege because we see patients through all their life stages; when there is illness, the primary care physician has the first opportunity to piece together the puzzle of what has gone wrong and to move forward with correcting it.”
A graduate from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Dr. Berkowitz completed his internal medicine residency at Lahey Clinic in 1998 and has since been a member of the Clinic's GIM Department. He is board certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Berkowitz lives in Natick with his wife and two children.
