Lahey Clinic Breast Imaging Center Recognized for Excellence

BURLINGTON, MA—Lahey Clinic's Breast Imaging Center has received the Center of Excellence award from the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR's award of excellence recognizes Lahey for earning accreditation in all of the ACR's voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs as well as the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

“The Lahey Clinic Breast Imaging Center is completely committed to the pursuit of excellence and quality of care,” said Betsy Angelakis, MD, director of breast imaging at Lahey Clinic. “There is nothing more important than to assist our patients in the early detection of breast cancer, to be ready to help them through the diagnostic process and to see survivors when they return for follow up care. It is an honor to be recognized by the American College of Radiology.”

The designation of excellence is awarded by the ACR's Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging to centers that are dedicated to improving women's health by participating in these rigorous quality assurance programs.

To receive the ACR's Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation, a center must be fully accredited in:

  • Mammography by the ACR or an FDA-approved state accrediting body
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy by the ACR
  • Breast ultrasound by the ACR, including the ultrasound-guided breast biopsy module
