Burlington, MA (December 1, 2015) – The Al Khalidi Hospital & Medical Center in Jordan, alongside physicians and administrators from Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, recently celebrated the grand opening of the first privately run women’s health center in the Middle East.

This facility will provide Jordanian patients and other patients from the Middle East access to exceptional medical care, including convenient access to the expertise of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) physicians.

The Women’s Health Center, which is the first women-run center in the Middle East, offers a full suite of imaging systems and health care informatics solutions to aid in diagnosis and the development of treatment plans. It is also the only private hospital facility in the Middle East to offer its patients tomography, as is similarly offered by LHMC at its Burlington facility. This 3-D mammogram provides a more complete view of breast tissue, thereby aiding in prevention and early detection.

“Al Khalidi has played a leading role in the health and well-being of its regional patients, and this new facility expands its capabilities in important areas,” said Linda Moulton, CEO of Executive & International Health for LHMC. “Our collaborative relationship with Al Khalidi strengthens both institutions and has the benefit of providing women extensive, expert care at the local level.”

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center has cared for many patients from this region for nearly two decades through its Executive Health Program. Through this clinical affiliation with Al Khalidi, the two organizations have expanded their relationship to include an outpatient diagnostics center that contains state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, an education and training center, and the Women’s Health Center.

Since the clinical affiliation between LHMC and Al Khalidi, patients are able to obtain second opinions on radiology tests by Lahey physicians, with the option of pursuing further treatment abroad at LHMC facilities, if needed. The same is true for women who have breast MRIs and other diagnostic testing at Al Khalidi – they will have the ability to receive a second opinion from Lahey physicians.

“Al Khalidi Women’s Health & Breast Center is dedicated to improving women’s health and quality of life by providing a continuum of care across the women’s health lifecycle, from prevention, screening and diagnosis to treatment, management and surveillance,” said Walid Al-Khalidi, CEO of Al Khalidi Hospital & Medical Center. “This approach enables us to focus our efforts on wellness and prevention, to better understand the clinical pathways of different health conditions and to identify areas for improvement.”
