Meg Dennehy, RN, of the Operating Room, received the April DAISY Award, an international program rewarding the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care delivered by nurses. She was nominated by fellow nurse Patricia O’Neill, who included comments from several other colleagues.
Within the OR, our patient care is very different from that of all other areas within the hospital. Meg takes care of people when they are at their most vulnerable. They are asleep and unable to speak for themselves and their families are not by their side. Meg has an incredible ability to know what her patient will need before it is even asked for. Meg always has a smile on her face, even when she is getting requests from everyone in her room at the same time. Meg is always kind, professional and especially caring to everyone she comes into contact with.
-Patricia O’Neill, RN
Every day, Meg teaches me to be a better person. We can all learn from Meg’s actions and words. She exemplifies what a Lahey nurse should be.
-Ann Kelliher, RN, Operating Room
Her quiet, non-confrontational, and selfless confidence are only surpassed by her clinical judgment and nursing skills. Ms. Dennehy truly encompasses the professionalism, caring, and work ethic associated with the DAISY award.
-Carlos David, MD, Neurosurgery
Meg stands out as someone who truly enjoys her job and excels at it, because she makes it a point to understand the cases and anticipate the next part of the procedure. I can't think of a person more deserving of this award.
-Robert Whitmore, MD, Neurosurgery
Meg anticipates always, complains never, and makes each member of the team feel valued. She has a kind, caring and friendly way with both patients and colleagues. She also has excellent taste in music!
-Zoher Ghogawala, MD, Neurosurgery
In the OR, she is proactive and plans many steps ahead in order to make sure patients are safe and well cared for. Her surgeries invariably run smoothly because she has already thought of every contingency. These things do not happen by accident. They happen because Meg is a tireless advocate for her patients. Whenever she is in the room, I know it is going to be a good day.
-Subu Magge, MD, Neurosurgery
I have nothing but great things to say about Meg. She is helpful and is always thinking ahead to the next step. She is a pleasure to work with and is most deserving of this award.
-Peter Dempsey, MD, Neurosurgery
Meg goes above and beyond each day no matter what is asked of her. She is truly committed to her patients and to the surgical specialties that she covers. Her surgeons are highly dependent on her and with good reason--they are fortunate to have someone with such a high level of dedication.
