Gynecologic cancer is cancer that affects the reproductive organs in women. It includes:
- Uterine cancer (also called endometrial cancer)
- Ovarian cancer (including fallopian tube and peritoneal cancers)
- Cervical cancer (cancer of the cervix, which is the tissue connecting the uterus and vagina)
- Vulvar cancer (cancer of the vulva, which is the outside, or external genitalia )
Successfully treating these types of women’s cancer involves a multidisciplinary approach requiring exceptional high-level medical and surgical expertise. At the Lahey Health Cancer Institute, you will find both.

Screening / Diagnosis
At LHCI, we assess women who may be at higher risk for hereditary female cancer such as breast, ovarian or uterine cancer due to family history, and personal risk factors. All women treated surgically for uterine cancer are screened for Lynch Syndrome. This helps identify any increased risk of colon and other associated cancers to implement prevention, and help reduce both your and potentially your families cancer risks.
Surgery
Our fellowship trained, board certified Gynecologic Oncology surgeons provide state-of-the-art services including minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery, which offers a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery with less pain. They have extensive experience in the full spectrum of relevant procedures that can successfully treat cancer, including fertility sparing surgery that may preserves a woman’s ability to have children.
Medical Oncology
Our medical oncology treatments for uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, and vulvar cancer are evidence-based, cutting-edge therapies. We send tumor samples for genetic testing and mutational testing, so we can identify targeted treatments to defeat cancer at its very core – the molecular level.
