Screening is done to find a problem and treat it early. Tests are given to people who do not have symptoms but who may be at high risk.
Screening Guidelines
Screening for ovarian cancer is not routinely advised. Diagnosis of early stage ovarian cancer is difficult. Those at higher risk of ovarian cancer may have certain tests. This includes women with a family history of ovarian cancer. It also includes women with certain gene changes.
Possible tests for those at high risk may be:
- Pelvic exam
- CA-125 blood test
- Transvaginal ultrasound
The doctor will advise tests based on risk.
