There are no guidelines to reduce the risk of eczema. Some evidence suggests that a child's risk may be lowered by:

  • Breastfeeding, or
  • Drinking formula that is:
  • 100 percent whey protein—partially hydrolyzed
  • Made from hydrolyzed cow's milk
  • Applying a daily moisturizer—to babies at risk
  • Taking probiotics—while pregnant or breastfeeding

Lifestyle treatments may reduce outbreaks in those with eczema.
