Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Burlington, Mass. – For the tenth time in a row, Lahey Health & Medical Center (LHMC) earned an “A” grade for their continued commitment to patient safety in the spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. The ratings signify how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm, including medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital.

“Our deep commitment to upholding the highest standards of patient care is displayed everyday by our nurses, clinicians and staff,” said Andrew G. Villanueva, MD, chief quality officer at LHMC. “As we celebrate Nurses and Hospital Week this week, we also celebrate the dedication of all our caregivers throughout this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We are honored to again receive an ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Group.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“Behind this recognition is the amazing work that the team at LHMC does every single day to support a culture of patient safety and provide the highest quality of care possible,” said Timothy Liesching, MD, chief medical officer at LHMC. “The community should be proud and reassured that LHMC has been consistently acknowledged for our safety practices and procedures.”

“In these unprecedented and challenging times in health care, it is truly an honor to receive this ‘A’ grade recognition from The Leapfrog Group and represents our true north in putting the patient in the center of everything we do at LHMC,” said David Longworth, MD, president of LHMC.
