Lahey’s New State-of-the-Art Emergency Department
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington opened the doors to our new world-class Joseph C. Corkery Emergency Center on January 25, 2017.
The new, expanded facility features comfortable waiting areas, private rooms, an imaging suite for CT scans and X-rays, and much more – all this so that we can quickly and expertly diagnose and treat patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries.
As the only Level I trauma center north of Boston, we are uniquely qualified to provide time-sensitive, critical care for hundreds of thousands of people in our region. This prestigious achievement from the American College of Surgeons is given to only a few select facilities that show exceptional readiness, resources, commitment and policies when providing advanced trauma care.

Careful Planning Was Key
This important project is much more than bricks and mortar. We have created space to respectfully care for patients when they are most vulnerable, physically and psychologically.
Our new facility is the result of extensive research and in‐depth planning. Lahey teams toured some of the country’s finest EDs to study practices, procedures and facilities. They incorporated “the best of the best” concepts and tailored them specifically for Lahey and our patients.
With this new facility, the Lahey teams that provide care to critically ill and injured patients are prepared for whatever situation comes through our Emergency Department doors.
