Neurology

Care for Neurological Disorders

Our mission is to provide the best possible care for patients with neurological disorders. We believe that compassionate physicians with subspecialty interests, training and experience best accomplish this mission. Working in a culture where collaboration, education and clinical research are valued, we take pride in educating fellows, residents and medical students, and in our multiple research accomplishments.

Every department member has extensive clinical experience with the full spectrum of neurological disorders and has one or more subspecialty interests. Many of our neurologists have received recognition, both locally and nationally, for excellence in their field. Multiple weekly conferences, both within the department and with colleagues from the other neuroscience departments, allow each Lahey Hospital & Medical Center neurologist to work collaboratively with others, and to stay abreast of new developments. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s unique practice model provides our patients with the most comprehensive medical care possible.

In addition to providing top-notch clinical care, our neurologists are also actively involved in both research and education. We are engaged in multiple neurologic research studies, including those on stroke, epilepsy, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), multiple sclerosis (MS) and movement disorders. Our physicians also teach medical students from Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM), Harvard Medical School, and UMass Medical School, and our department is home to a TUSM-affiliated residency program and two fellowship programs—neurophysiology/EMG and stroke.

In addition to treating patients at our Burlington, Lexington and Peabody campuses, the Neurology Department sees patients at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Cape Ann Medical Center in Gloucester and New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn.

We have several extensive, multidisciplinary programs focused on specific neurologic diseases and syndromes. These programs are centered in the Neurology Department and, in the Lahey tradition, include the expertise of multiple other specialties.

About Our Programs

The mission of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s Department of Neurology is to provide the best possible care for patients with neurological disorders. We believe this mission is best accomplished by compassionate physicians with subspecialty interests, training and experience, who work in a culture where collaboration, education and clinical research are valued. Multiple weekly conferences allow each neurologist to work collaboratively with others and to stay abreast of new developments in all aspects of neurology.

The Neurology Department is actively engaged in medical education and research.

Neurology Research

If you have a severe or chronic illness, participating in a clinical trial to evaluate a new treatment may offer you a chance to improve and/or extend your life. You may have already heard or read about a clinical trial at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and want to learn more, or you may be just starting to explore this option.

Research Programs at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center encompass more than 200 clinical trial protocols. The clinical staff of the Neurology Department possess extensive experience in conducting research and clinical trials and are currently involved in over 30 research trials.
