We hold monthly town hall meetings where nursing administration provides updates on Nursing Services and the organization as a whole. We also answer your questions and address your concerns. Our goal is to keep you connected and allow you to provide input on decisions that are being made.

At Lahey, we support ongoing education, certification and professional development through our Clinical Advancement Program. We offer tuition assistance, including scholarships for nurses working to advance their careers, as well as loan forgiveness. On-site course offerings and an RN Preceptor Incentive Program are also available.

Newly hired nurses participate in hospital and nursing service orientation, as well as individualized, competency-based unit orientation using a preceptor model.
Our transition to practice programs include nurse residency programs in almost all of our care areas as well as specialty orientation programs for experienced nurses new to a care area or new to Lahey.

The Clinical Ladder acknowledges nurses’ contributions to advancing the art and science of nursing at LHMC and in the larger community.

Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Nursing Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by American Nurses Association Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. We offer staff a robust selection of programs for continuing education.

Every month at Professional Governance, colleagues present a topic or case to their peers from throughout the medical center, focusing on both clinical care and the professional development needs of staff. It is an opportunity to share expertise, evidence-based practice and patient experiences that foster critical thinking and experiential learning.

Often held quarterly, these sessions give our health care team a chance to discuss the social and emotional challenges they face when caring for patients and families. In contrast to traditional medical rounds, the Schwartz Rounds focus on the human dimension of medicine.

Caregivers have an opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings on topics drawn from actual patient cases. The hope is that by sharing real-world experiences, caregivers are better able to make personal connections with their colleagues.

LHMC is fortunate and grateful to have several nursing endowments. These support a generous scholarship program devoted to nurses and other employees enrolled in academic nursing programs.

Nurses at LHMC have access to resources that help them advance nursing research to ensure our practice continues to be based in evidence.

Our nurses are active participants in professional forums where they can share their ideas about the practice and learn from their colleagues.

A variety of opportunities are available in clinical units that help nurses develop their expertise in a clinical area or leadership role of their choice.

We are a level 1 academic teaching hospital. We are an accredited comprehensive stroke center by the DNV and an accredited heartcare center by the ACC We specialize in many clinical specialties including neurology, cardiology, transplant, GI, urology, and a range of specialty clinics to meet the needs our community.

International Student Program

Bermuda Student Program
Each spring BILH hosts senior nursing students from Bermuda at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center. In the spring of 2023, 13 senior nursing students spent two weeks participating in nursing orientation and in assignments working with our nursing colleagues in all areas. Students enjoyed experiences in the operating room, cardiac catheterization lab, emergency department and all medical surgical and critical care areas. They participated in the MedSurg Residency Program, Shared Governance, as well as numerous simulation and clinical skills sessions.

Clinical Practicum Placement Program for Nursing Students

BILH is proud of its role in preparing nurses of the future. We provide clinical practicum placements for students at all levels of education, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level nursing program. Each year we host upwards of 100 students at all levels, many of whom join the team as colleagues at the completion of the placement.

Clinical Group Placements for Nursing Students

BILH’s contribution to the future of nursing continues through our clinical group placements from both associate and bachelor degree programs from local colleges and universities. Over 800 students from various nursing schools attend clinical here at LHMC, the majority of them taught by current Lahey colleagues.
