Neuroradiology – Diagnostic

Lahey radiologist looking at imaging

Neuroradiology is a subspecialty of Lahey’s Department of Diagnostic Radiology that is devoted to the imaging of the central nervous system (the brain and spine) and the head and neck. Imaging modalities used in neuroradiology include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT scan, diagnostic angiography and myelography. Please use the following links for further explanation of the imaging modalities and the more common diagnostic procedures performed in the section of Neuroradiology:

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
    • MRI of the Brain, Head and Neck
    • MRI of the Spine
    • MRA – Magnetic Resonance Angiography
  • Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)
    • CT of the Head (Brain, Orbits, Temporal Bone, Sinuses)
    • CT of the Neck
    • CT of the Spine
  • Cerebral Angiography
  • Myelography/CT Myelography

Interventional Neuroradiology

Lahey interventional radiologist looking at imaging

The Interventional Neuroradiology service at Lahey provides innovative imaging-guided procedures for patients diagnosed with vascular (blood vessel) diseases of the central nervous system, which includes the brain and spine. Our procedures benefit patients by offering a minimally invasive option, thereby eliminating the need for open surgery; by treating conditions that are otherwise difficult to treat or are untreatable by open surgery; and by allowing for a shorter recovery time.

To ensure that every patient receives the highest-quality care available, we combine a team of talented and compassionate caregivers with state-of-the-art technology such as 3-D and biplane angiography. In Sup Choi, MD, has performed more than 5,000 procedures and is an expert in the interventional treatment of acute strokes, aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), a congenital condition involving a tangle of abnormally connected arteries and veins in the head.

Our multidisciplinary approach means that we work closely with other clinical departments within Lahey, including Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Neurology and Endocrinology, to help decide the best course of treatment for our patients.

Some of the more common procedures we perform are:

  • Carotid Artery Stenting
  • Embolizations
  • Vertebroplasty

Vascular Imaging

Lahey vascular imaging

Vascular Imaging is a multidisciplinary area that crosses over several specialty services in the Department of Radiology in order to detect and treat disease in the blood vessels (arteries and veins) of the body. These specialty services include:

  • Interventional Radiology
  • Vascular Ultrasound
  • MR Angiography (MRA)
  • Cardiac (Coronary) CT Angiography
  • CT – Cardiac Calcium Screening
