About Our Psychiatry Residency Program

Our program is designed to support your professional growth by combining access to robust training sites, expert faculty, and tailored didactics, within a collaborative and stimulating learning environment.

Lahey Psychiatry Residency team at the APA conferenceOur core faculty in the Lahey Division of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine consists of an interdisciplinary group of academic clinicians with substantial experience educating and training medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows from Tufts University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School, among other institutions. Many of our faculty members have received Excellence in Teaching awards. In 2024, Lahey received its first cohort of medical students from UMass Chan–Lahey Regional Medical Campus, vastly expanding additional opportunities for teaching and research.

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) is a wonderful place to work and to learn. LHMC is a tertiary care system and Level I trauma center, with over 335 inpatient hospital beds. It offers more than 30 residency and fellowship programs and has been a respected teaching hospital in the Boston area for decades.

Lahey’s culture is one of collaboration. Dr. Frank Lahey founded an interdisciplinary group practice in 1923, with the goal of taking care of all patients’ needs under one roof. That model of collegiality and effective communication continues to the present time. Lahey believes in a just culture and a culture of safety to promote exceptional patient care.

The Lahey Psychiatry Residency Program takes advantage of the rich clinical opportunities in Eastern Massachusetts and our experienced faculty to provide a comprehensive and stimulating training experience.

Our Mission

Our program’s mission is to mentor and educate future leaders of psychiatry who are expert and compassionate academic clinicians, equipped with the competencies, skills, and intent to provide superb psychiatric care to our communities and advance a more effective healthcare system.

Clinical Experience

Our setting at Lahey Hospital combined with our partnerships with outside institutions provide our trainees a rich clinical experience.
