Summer Junior Volunteer Program – 2020

Thank you for your interest in the Summer Junior Volunteer Program at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. This nine-week, highly structured program provides a unique volunteer opportunity where students can gain experience working in a hospital environment, explore careers in the medical field, and develop important skills for great customer service. 

The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is open to high school students entering grades 10 through 12 as of September 2020.

Accepted students must be:

  • Available to attend a mandatory orientation
  • Available the first and last week of the program
  • Available to volunteer eight (8) hours per week
  • Take no more than two weeks of vacation time during the program

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers have the opportunity to assist in a variety of areas throughout the hospital. All volunteer assistance is valuable, whether greeting or escorting patients and visitors, delivering materials, passing out snacks, helping people with lunch, or stocking supplies. Our department staff, as well as our patients and visitors, appreciate the commitment and help all our volunteers provide.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Lobby Greeter
  • Messenger and Escort
  • Cafeteria Host/Hostess
  • Gift Shop/Gift Cart Attendee
  • Central Processing Delivery Aid
  • Shipping & Receiving Aid
  • Various Hospital Department Assistance

Volunteer Benefits

In addition to making new friends and knowing you have made a positive difference, our volunteers are eligible to receive:

  • A meal voucher of $4.25 per shift

Becoming a Volunteer

If you are interested in becoming part of our volunteer team, please complete the Junior Volunteer application between 8 am, Monday, February 17 and 5 pm, Friday, February 21, and remember to review the mandatory requirements with your parents or guardians. Unfortunately, applications submitted after 5 pm on February 21 will not be considered. Group interviews will be granted based on a review of your application and the number of available volunteer openings.

The application process also includes:

  • Proof of immunizations, including tuberculosis
  • Training and orientation

Please Note: The last portion of the application requires an essay of 250 words or fewer. Please be prepared to write about someone who inspires you and why.
