Jalil Afnan, MD, Named Chair of Department of Radiology at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center
New Chair To Guide Innovation and Excellence in Radiology
Burlington, MA – Jalil Afnan, MD, has been appointed chair of the Department of Radiology at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC), part of Beth Israel Lahey Health.
Afnan brings extensive clinical and academic experience and leadership to his new role, having most recently served as executive vice chair of operations for radiology at LHMC since 2020.
Afnan previously served as LHMC’s associate dean for education, overseeing the hospital’s residency and fellowship training programs as director of graduate medical education. In addition, he is a founder and inaugural co-director of the Lahey Innovation Hub and an associate professor of radiology at UMass Chan-Lahey School of Medicine in Burlington.

Afnan attended the University of Leeds School of Medicine in England, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees, and is dual-board certified, initially completing surgery residency training at St. Bartholomew’s and the Royal London hospitals in London and subsequently a radiology residency at LHMC. He joined LHMC as a senior staff radiologist in 2009.
