New CMO To Lead Excellence and Innovation in Patient Care

Burlington, MA – Jeffrey Marx, MD, has been named Chief Medical Officer of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC), part of Beth Israel Lahey Health.

Marx joined LHMC in 1998 as a senior staff physician and board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon and has served in numerous leadership roles over the past 27 years, most recently as chief value officer since 2021. He has been serving as interim chief medical officer since 2024.

“Dr. Marx brings immense experience and clinical expertise as a valued leader at Lahey to his role as chief medical officer,” said Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, president of LHMC. “His proven ability to foster a culture of teamwork and operational efficiency will be an asset as he leads our highly accomplished medical staff in furthering the delivery of exceptional care to our patients.”

Marx previously served as interim chair of surgery at LHMC from 2019 to 2021, chair of the Division of Ophthalmology from 2006 to 2019, and chief medical officer of Lahey Medical Center, Peabody from 2011 to 2019. He is also a professor of surgery at UMass Chan-Lahey Regional Medical School Campus and adjunct professor of ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine. He has been recognized nationally for his service to the field of ophthalmology.

Marx earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
